Dr. Jessica Holliday is the owner and medical director of Berkeley Animal Hospital. She grew up alongside her two brothers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007 and practiced for four years at a small animal and emergency clinic in Las Vegas, NV before moving to the Bay Area in 2011. She has worked at several clinics in the Bay Area before starting Berkeley Animal Hospital.
Dr. Holliday’s goal in veterinary medicine is to aid in the healthiest life for your animal family with the least amount of stress possible. She does this through listening to your concerns and tailoring a plan for your needs. Although she enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine she has a particular soft spot for senior pets.
In her spare time, Dr. Holliday enjoys living an active and healthy life with her friends and family, including Elliot, a Terrier-Dachshund mix.
Entering Tufts University in 1987, I wanted to be a physician. However, while working at Harvard Medical School following graduation, I discovered my true calling after a chance meeting with a veterinarian. I moved from the East Coast to California to attend UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. Afterward, the “call to service” was very loud in my ears, so I joined the United States Army Veterinary Corps in 2001 and served my country until 2009. I have been practicing in the great state of California ever since, making my home in Oakland with my Cal grad husband and 3 cats. I have strong interests in prevention, internal medicine, and dermatology. I proudly self-identify as a nerd, ‘crazy cat lady’, and dog aficionado.
It is a privilege to care for your beloved companions, and it is my goal to be a trusted partner in their care. I feel very honored to be a part of the Berkeley Animal Hospital community and am pleased to continue to serve the folks in my neighborhood

Dr. Ruta Bandivadekar brings a diverse background in veterinary medicine, spanning global wildlife conservation and advanced clinical care. She grew up in Pune, India and earned her Bachelor’s in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry from Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University in 2012, followed by a Master’s in Wildlife Medicine from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in India in 2014.
Her passion for wildlife health led her to work as a veterinarian at Pench Tiger Reserve in India, the very jungle that inspired The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. She also spent time in South Africa, working with rhinos, wildebeest, zebras, and other big game animals, further expanding her expertise in wildlife medicine. Dr. Bandivadekar then moved to Davis, CA, where she worked for several years as a staff veterinarian at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, specializing in hummingbird health and conservation. She later shifted her focus to companion animals, pursuing a Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine (MPVM) at UC Davis and completing her licensing for small animal practice.
Dr. Bandivadekar has a special interest in preventive medicine, believing that proactive health management is key to improving patient outcomes. Fun fact: she has even microchipped hummingbirds!

She is very passionate about her patients and is deeply aware of the inter-species bond that we have with our companion animals. Her focus is always on their quality of life.
She loves treating pets with a variety of issues and is particularly interested in orthopedic and neurological disorders as well as working with geriatric pets.
